DESCRIPTION 

The Department of Economics at UC Santa Barbara invites applications for the Junior Specialist position.

The Consortium of Applied Research in Economics (CARE) within the Department of Economics at UC Santa Barbara is recruiting a full-time junior specialist.

The position will entail overseeing research projects, including analyzing the secondary public health data and collecting primary data from field experiments, and designing and carrying out research projects using large data sets . In addition, the position involves close collaboration with Professor Royer to build datasets, produce insights from data, conduct statistical analyses, simulate models, prove model properties, contribute to academic papers, and oversee an undergraduate research team. There is also engagement with Professor Royer’s coauthors, some of the top Economics professors from Santa Barbara and other top universities. Projects typically involve Microeconomics and related topics, including timely research on COVID-19.

The Basic Qualification for this position is a Bachelor’s Degree in Economics, or a related field, at the time of application. The Department is especially interested in candidates who can contribute to the excellence and diversity of the academic community through research, teaching, and service.

The initial appointment is for 1 year, with renewal based on performance and funding. The position has an anticipated start date of February 1, 2021. This is an 100% full time appointment.

Basic Qualifications:
Bachelor’s eegree in Economics or a related field at the time of application

Preferred Qualifications:

  • 1‐2 years demonstrated programming experience and skilled in in one or more modern data science languages (e.g., R, Python, etc.).
  • Advanced training in mathematical Microeconomics, data analysis and Econometrics, either via classwork or research projects.
  • Prior experience assisting with research for a professor in Economics, Finance, Statistics, or Econometrics, ideally at a research‐oriented university.
