DESCRIPTION
The Department of Economics at UC Santa Barbara invites applications for the Wilcox Family Chair in Entrepreneurial Economics at the Associate or Full Professor level with an anticipated start date of July 1, 2021.
Qualified applicants should have a PhD in Economics or a related field by the time of application, with preference for candidates who currently hold the rank of Associate or Full Professor. Preference will also be given to candidates with a demonstrated research program that advances the study of economics, and with a record of teaching and mentoring. Preference will also be given to individuals with corporate experience, business start-up experience, or a demonstrated interest in supporting entrepreneurship. It is expected that the chair holder will devote about half of his or her instructional efforts to teaching that supports student entrepreneurship.
We particularly encourage applicants whose research might articulate with a divisional cluster hiring initiative focused on roots of and remedies for chronic social inequalities, and more specifically, racial disparities in health outcomes.
The Department is especially interested in candidates who can contribute to the diversity and excellence of the academic community through research, teaching and service. All candidates must submit a Statement of Contributions to Diversity. These statements, will be reviewed for evidence of teaching, research, professional and/or public service contributions that promote diversity and equal opportunity, such as effective strategies used for the educational advancement of students in various under-represented groups; demonstrated contributions to the advancement of equitable access and diversity in education; and contributions furthering diversity and equal opportunity in higher education through participation in such activities as recruitment, retention, and mentoring of scholars and students. Guidelines for Diversity Statement Guidelines can be found at https://econ.ucsb.edu/about/diversity-statement-guidelines.
A complete application will include a CV , a letter of intent, and a Statement of Contributions to Diversity. We will begin reviewing completed applications immediately after January 22, 2021.
