DESCRIPTION

The Department of Economics at UC Santa Barbara invites applications for the Mellichamp Chair - Mind and Machine in Entrepreneurial Economics at the Associate or Full Professor level with an anticipated start date of July 1, 2021.

Review of completed applications will begin on February 2, 2021. The position will remain open until filled.

Qualified applicants should have a PhD in Economics or a related field by the time of application, with preference for candidates who currently hold the rank of Associate or Full Professor.

The Mind and Machine Intelligence Initiative seeks to hire a cluster of Chairs to bring together computational scientists studying the human mind with computer scientists and engineers to create new ways of looking at fundamental problems in science, engineering, and the humanities. The Initiative aims to understand the capabilities of humans and machines, and to develop the next generation artificial intelligence for fruitful interactions with humans. The Chair in Economics may participate directly in the development or application of tools of machine learning or may study the effects of machine learning and artificial intelligence on modern society.

The Department is especially interested in candidates who can contribute to the diversity and excellence of the academic community through research, teaching and service.
