Biography

David Silver is an Economist from Amazon. Prior to this appointment, David Silver served as an Assistant Professor of Economics and Public Affairs at Princeton University. He received his PhD from the University of California, Berkeley in Economics. His research interests primarily focus on Health Economics.

Title: "Compensating Mental Disorders: Health and Well-Being Impacts of Income Support for Veterans"

Abstract: We study impacts of the US Department of Veteran Affairs (VA) Disability Compensation program, a rapidly growing program that is roughly two-thirds the size of SSDI in expenditures. Our empirical strategy leverages quasi-random assignment of veterans claiming mental disability to medical examiners who vary in their assessing tendencies.
