I am a tenured Assistant Professor of Economics and Public Policy at IIT Kharagpur. I am working with the Economics Department at the University of California Santa Barbara with Fulbright Postdoc Fellowship. My present research areas are - international migration for the informal sector workers, job board design, infrastructure and economic development with remote sensing data. I work on the intersection of economics and information technologies. I teach Microeconomics, Econometrics, Business and Government at IIT Kharagpur. Before taking up the academic position, I worked with the World Bank, the United Nations Development Program and the Government of India in various consulting positions. My areas of work were skill development and labor market. My under graduation was in Production Engineering.
At present, we are designing a randomized control trial experiment to facilitate the international migration of informal sector workers. We are conducting this work with the support of the Cisco University Research Grant. Professor Peter Kuhn is my collaborator at the UCSB. The measurement of the standard of living involves processing satellite images, drone data and different survey and Government scheme data. This research is sponsored by the Indian Space Research Organization (ISRO) and ISIRD grant from IIT Kharagpur. Other ongoing research works are designing job recommendation engines, recruitment bias etc.
