Career Connection Fellows Program

The UCSB Department of Economics, Career Connection office and its alumni are proud to use this program to bring together top employers with our brightest students in a professionally fulfilling engagement.

This opportunity is incredibly valuable for students in that they gain experience in applying for positions, writing their resumes, interviewing, interaction with influential Alumni, professionalism, and they receive an internship if they are selected.

Overview for Students  

We invite you to join us in this program. The Career Connection Fellows program will be a great way for you to connect with employers that might not traditionally recruit at UCSB.

Program Qualifications

  • Ambitious and well-rounded students with a demonstrated interest in securing a summer internship

  • At least a 3.2 cumulative UCSB GPA

  • Available for at least 10 weeks during the Summer

Program Benefits:

  • A competitive advantage when applying to internships as a result of the direct advising

  • Career Connection Fellows internships provide a paid opportunity to gain hands-on experience and guidance from an industry professional

  • Increased marketability and value to employers for future internships or full-time positions

  • Past participants have gained full-time job offers from their internship employers

Application Requirements and Process:

Eligibility: This program is open to students who will be returning to UCSB for at least one-quarter after their summer internship and expect to graduate between December 2018 and June 2019.  Students must also have a minimum 3.2 cumulative UCSB GPA.

Overview for Employers

Hosting a Student

The Economics department has 2 majors: Economics, Economics and Accounting, totaling over 1,200 students.  Only the best of these students will have the opportunity to be selected as Career Connection Fellows. Our distinguished alumni volunteers will interview and select students. The committee is looking for students with strong communication skills, leadership experience, high academic achievement, and an overall drive towards success.

We invite you to join us in this program. The Department of Economics will work with you to find talented UCSB undergraduates with a strong interest in your firm. The Career Connection Fellows program will be a great way for you to connect with UCSB students that will contribute to your organization for years to come. The Career Connection Fellows program complements the existing programs within your organization. If your company offers an internship program, we encourage you to consider becoming a Career Connection Fellows employer.

 Participation Requirements:

  • Organization should have a full‐time paid internship opportunity for 6 - 10 weeks during the summer.

  • Must simply receive our Career Connection Fellows resume book – you do not have to offer internships to our students.

The selection of Fellows typically takes place during the end of January.  Businesses who choose to receive our resume book should receive a copy by mid-February.
