Guidelines for Papers:

Papers are not indicative of test material for the midterm(s) and final.

UCSB's policy regarding academic integrity can be found at http://judicialaffairs.sa.ucsb.edu/StudentResources.aspx You are expected to be familiar with all the academic integrity rules and to follow UCSB policies. Academic dishonesty (plagiarism, cheating, and so on) will be taken very seriously. Failure to comply could result in no credit given for the paper, failing the class, and reported to Judicial Affairs.

Your paper is worth 100 points with 25 points allocated toward following the guidelines.

1.  The entire paper must be typed. Exceptions are noted below.

·         Numerical examples and proofs can be neatly written.

·         Graphs can be neatly hand written/drawn and must be included on the page when the graph is first referenced. Do not attach graph(s) to the back of the paper.

2. All sources for papers must be noted. Footnotes are fine as is a formal reference page. No particular style or format is required.

3.  Multiple pages should be stapled. No paper clips.

4. Please do not use a binder or plastic covers.

5. Formatting:

·         Margins should be 1 inch.

·         Times New Roman, 12 point font.

·         Double space.

6. Page maximums are given so that students do not "fluff-up" paper(s). If you find yourself using extra sentences or paragraphs to bulk-up your paper, you are wasting your time and my time. The more fluff in your paper, the lower your grade.

7. Graphs, charts, balance sheets, and pictures are not included in the page maximum.

8. Papers are due at the beginning of the class period on the day that they are due. An assignment will be considered late if it is not turned in at the beginning of the class period. Please note that the rule for late submission: a deduction of 25 points (out of 100) for every 24 hours that the assignment is late. ie, if you turn in your paper 1 day late, the maximum score you can earn is 75 points. If 2 days late, the maximum is 50 points, etc.

9. Extensions can be granted to students with special circumstances. ie, you are interviewing for a potential job, you are sick (provide documentation) etc. If you request an extension the day the paper is due, then it will count as 1 day late. The maximum grade you can receive is 75 points.
