UCSB EAP Economics Students

EAP application information

So you’re thinking about studying abroad and need a little help, you’ve come to the right place! During the admissions process to EAP, you need to fill out an Academic Planning Form. Now you have the form, what should you do with it? Well, we’ll get to that in a few seconds. First let’s look at the form. Notice on page 2 where you list the courses you think you want to take… it says “MAY APPLY TO MY…” the word MAY means this form is NOT an approval that the classes will count within the economics major. This form is to ensure you receive counseling regarding graduation and you understand how many classes you need to complete for graduation in economics. Again, this form is a graduation check!

What should you do? Pick some classes you think you’d like to take. Now go to the Economics undergrad office and go over the form with them. They will advise you with graduation requirements. They will look at the course(s) you wish to take and will make an educated guess if the class will count or not. This is NOT an approval that the class will count in the econ major.

OK then, when should you get approval for your EAP classes? After you are admitted to EAP and have decided on when and where you will attend school, contact me and I will process your approvals.

I look forward to hearing from you when you

1.     are admitted to EAP,

2.     have decided on a school,

3.     have decided on a quarter/semester and

4.     have chosen some economics courses you think you want to take.

When steps 1-4 are complete, further information and the steps for course approvals can be found at http://econ.ucsb.edu/~benelli/EAP/UCSB_students.htm.

Finally, it is important to get approvals right before you begin your international studies to ensure the classes you “think” will apply to your economics degree will apply to your degree. Happy travels!
