The Department of Economics is saddened over the recent passing of Emeritus Professor Walter Mead
Emeritus Professor Walter J. Mead passed away on September 29th, 2016. Dr. Mead joined the Economics department in 1957, and retired in 1991 after 34 years of academic service. During his tenure at UCSB, Professor Mead served as Department Chair and and divisional chair of the Academic Senate, as well as mentoring countless undergraduate and gradate students. The university will be lowering the campus flag in his honor on November 2.
In addition to having a tremendous impact on former students, Dr. Mead and his wife Thelma generously donated two endowed chair positions to the department, thus ensuring Walter's legacy on future students.
