US Teachers Among Lowest Paid In Industralized Nations, Analysis Says
Wisconsin Public Radio’s Kathleen Dunn show recently featured Professor Dick Startz in a discussion about international comparisons of teacher salaries. Using data from the OECD, Professor Startz showed that the United States lags behind its competitors in teacher pay and discussed with callers to the show the need to attract more of the best students into teaching.
"College students are thinking about what kind of career might they like to have, and they think about all sorts of things," Startz said. "They think about what they're good at, they think about what they love doing ... but they also think about financial rewards. And if we want to get more of the really good students to move into teaching, then we need to make teaching more attractive."
