Common tasks when using THUNDERBIRD
A.) Searching Messages:
- In the main Thunderbird window, open the Edit menu and choose Find --> Search Messages.
- You can set "Search for messages in:" to be any folder, or your entire account by selecting @econ.ucsb.edu.
- In the drop-down menu, choose if you want to search by Subject, From, Body (text in the body of the message), etc. Then enter the text you want to search for in the blank field after "contains".
- Hit the search button and it will be begin searching. If you get any errors, just say ok and ignore them. This happens sometimes and doesn't mean anything.
B.) Subscribing to Folders:
If Pine or another program besides Thunderbird makes an e-mail folder in your account Thunderbird might not know about it until you subscribe to that folder in Thunderbird. To do this:
- In the main Thunderbird window, right-click on your e-mail address at the top of the Folders list and select Subscribe.
- Scroll down to the folder labeled mail with a plus sign to the left of it. Click on the plus sign to expand your mail folders list.
- Scroll down again to find the folder you want to subscribe to and put a check mark opposite the name of your folder.
- Check all the folders you need and then click OK
Then the folder will be available to you like your other mail folders.
