Mapping the H: Drive
For Windows 2000/XP/Vista/7-->
1) Open Windows Explorer (Start-->Programs-->Accessories-->Windows
Explorer) and go to the tools menu and "Map Network Drive".
2) For drive, put "\\econ.econ.ucsb.edu\<username>" with no quotes.
You can label the drive H:, if you like. For Windows 2000 and XP, click on the underlined
link that says "different user name" and enter ECON-DOMAIN\<username>
as your username and your econ password.
3) If your machine has an auto-login, keep in mind that it will mount your drive each time the machine boots, even if it is not you booting it. If you have individual logins for each user, then you don't need to worry about it.
*If doing this from off-campus you will need to use the campus VPN:
PLEASE NOTE: The campus VPN has is not the most stable and sometimes causes problems on people's computers. If you want a reliable way to transfer files to your H: drive from home, you should use SCP. The VPN can and may cause problems, you have been warned.
