Southwest Economic Theory Conference:

The Southwest Economic Theory Conference is held annually at one of nine participating universities in Southern California and Arizona. Participating institutions are:

  • Arizona State University
  • California Institute of Technology
  • University of Arizona
  • UC Irvine
  • UCLA
  • UC Riverside
  • UC San Diego
  • UC Santa Barbara
  • University of Southern California
This is an annual opportunity for economics faculty and graduate students interested in pure and applied economic theory to get together, report on their recent work, and share ideas. The meeting typically attracts about 40 out-of-town guests who are faculty or graduate students at participating institutions. This is a “freeway conference,” where most participants come by automobile, however, conference organizers will typically invite one or two special guests from outside Southern California to participate in the program. The 2008 annual meeting, will be the tenth annual meeting of this group. This is the second time that UCSB has hosted these meetings. The first was in 1999.
