The New England Public Policy Center (NEPPC)
The New England Public Policy Center (NEPPC) at the Federal Reserve Bank of Boston is currently accepting applications for one academic semester internship for the spring of 2010.
Academic-year internships are unpaid and require that the student receive academic credit from their school for the internship. Students are asked to commit to at least 15-20 during hours per week normal business hours for an entire semester. Applications are due Friday, November 6th.

Massachusetts Budget and Policy Center (MBPC)
Massachusetts Budget and Policy Center (MBPC) is pleased to announce
the launch of our search for a new Research Director.
MBPC provides independent research and analysis of state budget and
tax policies as well as economic issues that affect low- and moderate- income people in Massachusetts. Active citizens, the media, grassroots
and issue organizations, and policy makers across Massachusetts rely
on our non-partisan reports to make informed contributions to critical
debates and to make their voices heard.
We seek a talented professional with experience in public policy
research and management to step into this newly created role.
Reporting to Executive Director Noah Berger, the Research Director
will work to define and balance a portfolio of research and management
responsibilities in accordance with MBPC’s mission. S/he will
supervise MBPC’s policy analysts and collaborate with all staff to
develop and produce clear, reliable information about tax, budget and
economic policy choices to the public. The Director will both serve as
the lead tax policy researcher for MBPC as well as manage the quality
and substance of information flow within the organization and to
external constituencies. S/he will oversee the research and writing of
MBPC’s in-depth reports including its signature publication, Budget
Monitor. The successful candidate must be able to transform complex
budget, tax and economic policy into clear and straightforward
language for engaged citizens, grassroots and issue advocates, the
press, policymakers, and other audiences. S/he will possess excellent
research and analytical skills, as well as demonstrated expertise
managing highly skilled teams. S/he will have the sophistication,
agility and knowledge to establish credibility as an authority on
state tax and budget concerns and will balance strong quantitative
skills with effective communication skills. S/he will embrace MBPC’s
commitment to use accurate, careful, and thorough research to inform
public debates and to provide more people with the information they
need to participate more effectively in those debates. S/he will
demonstrate the capacity to manage multiple projects simultaneously in
a collaborative and non-hierarchical work atmosphere. Ideally, s/he
will have an advanced degree in Public Policy, Economics or a related
field, though candidates with significant research and/or policy
management experience will also be considered. Qualified applicants
will have at least 5-10 years of relevant work experience in public
policy, government, or a related field.

Levy Institute Measure of Economic Well-Being (LIMEW)
Research Scholar, The Distribution of Income and Wealth Job Description: The Levy Economics Institute of Bard College invites applications for two Research Scholar positions in the program on distribution of income and wealth. The scholar will collaborate with a team of economists on updating and extending the Levy Institute Measure of Economic Well-Being (LIMEW). The successful candidate would be capable of developing analyses of well-being and deprivation using the LIMEW and its components. Special consideration will be given to candidates with research interests in issues of international comparisons of living standards and measurement of poverty. Requirements: A completed Ph.D. is required, but candidates expecting the degree in the immediate future will also be considered. The New England Public Policy Center at the Federal Reserve Bank of
Boston is seeking a policy analyst.
Job Summary:
Prepare analyses of public policy and economic issues and the New
England economy for regional policy center publications, verbal
presentations, and other internal and external communication media.
Essential Accountabilities:
* Prepare thoughtful, well-researched briefings and analyses on a
wide range of public policy and economic issues.
* Write analytical and engaging articles on public policy and
economics topics and on the New England economy for the
publications of the regional policy center, aimed at a
sophisticated, knowledgeable audience.
* Publicly present research findings to various audiences; publicly
present about status of the region's economy
* Handle public information requests submitted to senior Bank
officials and the regional policy center.
* Represent the Bank, as needed, on advisory committees and boards
of directors of interest groups, research organizations, and
government agencies concerned with economic and public policy
analysis, especially within New England.
* Edit and provide feedback on the articles of the Center's other
analysts, writers, and economists.
* Prepare other internal and external presentations as needed.
* Help hire and supervise interns and research assistants, as needed.
Education and experience:
* Master's degree in economics or public policy or advanced degree
in a related field with coursework in microeconomics, statistics
and/or econometrics.
* A specialization in public finance and public economics highly
desirable. Other specializations of interest include labor,
demographics, urban and regional economics, health, housing, and
education.
* At least one year of experience in a related field.
* Demonstrated ability to perform quantitative economic research.
* Demonstrated ability to manage small-scale research projects.
* Demonstrated ability to think critically and analyze data from a
variety of sources.
* Strong verbal and writing skills.
* Ability to work effectively as part of a team.
Supervisory Responsibility:
May supervise interns and Research Assistants.
Internal and External Communications:
Frequent communication with senior Bank officials, public policy makers
