While the Economics & Accounting major is the best way to get your units for the CPA at UCSB, we understand that sometimes it's just not the right fit. Here are some alternative resources to get your CPA certification.

UCSB Extension Professional Accounting

This program is intended for Accounting professionals working as accountants in public accounting, industry, or government, individuals seeking entry into these accounting careers, and individuals wishing to study specific subjects without pursuing the certificate.

This program will gain you the 36 quarter units of accounting needed to sit for the CPA exams.

UC Berkeley Charter of Professional Accountancy

UC Berkeley offers a two-year summer-only program intended to help students gain the 36 units of accounting needed in order to sit for the CPA exams.

​Masters in Accountancy Programs

Here are some resources for getting additional experience and units in accounting. Many schools offer one- or two-year programs after receiving your Bachelor's degree. Please note: these are not the only options for Masters programs, they are just ones that we commonly hear UCSB students going to.

California State University, Long Beach

The Master of Science in Accountancy (MSA) at CBA, CSULB provides the additional 30 units required to complete the 150 semester units required for CPA licensure in California. The MSA also provides advanced knowledge in tax, corporate governance, ethics, and other topics important for accountants in government and industry. The MSA prepares graduates to deal with increases complexity in accounting practice, tax laws, and business methods fueled by new technology. MSA graduates have career opportunities with public accounting firms, corporate entities, financial firms, audit & tax groups, and government/tax authorities.
