Career Connection Speaker Series

The Career Connection Speaker Series brings alumni and industry professionals to campus to discuss their career paths and success stories and to help answer questions about the different opportunities available to students.

All of the lectures occur on Fridays throughout the Spring Quarter from 11:00 AM - 12:00 PM in North Hall 2111 and open to all years and majors.

April 27 - Peter Corsa ('91) - Corporate Business Operations

Peter Corsa currently serves as Chief Operating Officer for At Home, the home décor superstore with approximately 150 large format stores that dedicate more space per store to home décor than any other player in the industry. At Home is focused on providing the broadest assortment of products to suit every room, in every style, for every budget, offering more than 50,000 unique items across broad product categories including furniture, garden, home textiles, housewares, patio, rugs, seasonal décor, tabletop décor and wall décor.

Peter joined At Home  as Chief Stores Officer in March 2013 and was promoted to his current position in December 2016. Prior to joining At Home, Mr. Corsa served as Vice President of KSL Resorts from January 2011 to April 2013, which operates luxury resorts throughout the United States. Before this, he served as Executive Vice President of Retail for Stuart Weitzman from January 2006 to February 2011. In addition, he served as Senior Director of Store Operations for Gap from 2004 to 2006, Senior Director of Loss Prevention for Old Navy from 2002 to 2003, and Director of Store Operations for Old Navy from 1999 to 2002. Mr. Corsa received his Master of Business Administration from St. Mary's College of California and his Bachelor's degree in Political Science from the University of California, Santa Barbara.

May 11 - Rod Scherba ('79) - Commercial Real Estate

Rod Scherba is semi-retired from his position as Executive Managing Director at Newmark Grubb Knight Frank, where he specializes in commercial real estate. His client list includes Deutsche Bank, DivcoWest, Facebook, Kaiser Family Foundation, LinkedIn, Stanford University, Sun Microsystems and Uber. He has 29 years of experience in the real estate business, and he has completed more than 950 lease and sales transactions. He made the “Top Broker List” of the Association of Silicon Valley Brokers in 2011 and 2012 and was named “Dealer of the Year” by the “Silicon Valley Business Journal” in 2011. Rod received his B.A. in Economics from UC Santa Barbara in 1979.

May 18 - Mike Stewart (‘91) - Finance

Mike Stewart is currently a Managing Director at Credit Suisse in New York, where he is responsible for Global Equities and sits on the Global Markets Management team. Previously, Mr. Stewart was a group managing director at UBS in Zurich, Switzerland where he ran Global Investment Products and Services and sat on the wealth management executive committee. From 2011-2014, Mr. Stewart was global head of Equities for the UBS Investment Bank, based in New York.

Mr. Stewart began his career in financial services in 1992 at Barclays Global Investors in San Francisco, where he worked in various capacities, ultimately heading the equity trading division. He relocated to New York in 2002 to work for Merrill Lynch, and subsequently Bank of America Merrill Lynch, where he served in a variety of roles, including: global head of cash equities, global head of electronic execution, and global head of portfolio and automated trading. From 2008-2011, Mr. Stewart was in London as co-head of Bank of America Merrill Lynch’s Global Equities Division, co-head of European Markets, and a member of the investment bank management committee.

A graduate of UC Santa Barbara in 1991, Mr. Stewart holds a B.A. in both Business Economics and English.

May 25 - Dana ('93) & Jamie Finegold ('93) - Fashion & Entrepreneurship

Dana Finegold is CFO and co-owner of JD Fine & Company, a fashion business that she founded with her husband, CEO Jamie Finegold in 1996. Jamie created his own line of bright neon volleyball gear while a student at UC Santa Barbara, which gave birth to the idea of starting a fashion company.

JD Fine & Company is headquartered in Concord, California. Its Tart Collections label debuted in 2004 and specializes in tops, jersey dresses, and sportswear. The company produces every pattern and piece at their in-house design studio. Fans of the brand include Alessandra Ambrosio, Heidi Klum, Jessica Alba, Kourtney Kardashian, Katy Perry, Selena Gomez and Sofia Vergara. Tart is sold in more than seven hundred boutique and department stores across the country.

Dana received her B.A. in Economics from UC Santa Barbara in 1993, while Jamie recieved his BA in Sociology in the same year. Dana belonged to the Delta Gamma sorority, and Jamie belonged to the Sigma Alpha Epsilon fraternity.
